Headboard

First thing first- you MUST have a headboard. Without a headboard, it looks like there’s a mattress is just sitting in the middle of the room. If you don’t take any other of these tips, at least take this one!
The bed is the main feature of the room. You don’t necessarily need a footboard or a base. The headboard is the most important feature and will draw your eyes in. Bed skirts are quite inexpensive and also help frame the main event too.
Bedside Tables

Having bedside tables help make the room look more cohesive. Not to mention, they are extremely useful and functional. The one stipulation I had while shopping for a bedside table is that it was REQUIRED to have at least one drawer. I need a place to stash easy to grab items while I’m being lazy in bed!

Matching Lamps

The shape of the lamps really help define the style of the room. I love these lamps because they have timeless elegance. They are minimal yet classy, and I love that. Plus, it’s a little outside of the typical minimalistic neutral style that’s so common right now.
Wall Sconces

If you need more table space on your nightstand or are just looking for something different than the typical lamp, try wall sconces! There are so many great wall sconces out there that you do not have to hardwire in. These battery powered wall sconces are easy to install and add a very sophisticated design element to your bedroom.
Olive Tree

Having plants in your apartment (real or fake) really makes the place feel more like a home. These are surprisingly inexpensive if you look around! Citrus or Fiddle Leaf also look amazing in the home. To really make the biggest impact, place your tree in a basket and fill the to the top with craft moss.
Floor Length Curtains

If you need to figure out how to hang your curtains without drilling holes in the walls, I got you! But whatever you do, you MUST hang floor length curtains in your bedroom or apartment bedroom. Don’t rely on the blinds that come with every apartment, because they will not do you any favors.
I have personally purchased the exact curtains linked above and I love them! I have multiple sets from this brand and I am obsessed. Here are links to my curtain rod and curtain hangers.
Dresser with Aesthetic Knobs

It’s time to breakup with the plastic drawers that have seen every dorm room and college apartment that you’ve lived in. Choose a dresser that is short, not too tall. The great thing about shorter dressers is that it gives you a lot more surface area to add decor.
Don’t get hung up on finding a dresser with the perfect knobs. You can find inexpensive knob replacements and you can choose exactly what fits your style and aesthetic.
Organic Vase

Look, I’ve already got you started on what to add to your dresser! But seriously, having at least one vase in your room makes you look more mature and adds shape and texture to the room. This vase gives the room an old world European vibe and makes your space feel more personal and collected.
Add pompous grass, olive branches, or eucalyptus stems for another natural element. Vases are so versitile; you can change the contents to match the seasons! Twigs looks great for winter and add in some cherry blossoms with the twigs as the seasons shift to spring.
Full Length Mirror

Not only is a full length mirror helpful from a style and selfie stand point, but it also really opens up your room. If you have a small apartment bedroom, a full length mirror is the best way to make the room feel bigger.
Large Framed Painting

Like I mentioned with the lamps, I like the elegant-timeless look and especially in the bedroom. I was gifted the large frame in our bedroom by one of my mom’s very sweet coworkers who is an amazing garage sale picker!
I highly recommend hitting up all the Goodwill’s near you and stopping by any garage sale on the way. If you can find an estate sale, you’re in luck! One of the most expensive looking pieces in our room was actually free to us. And I’ve seen many great secondhand frames and prints for $30 or less. Hunt for a great find! It will be cost effective and satisfying.
Abstract Canvases

If you like a more modern look in your bedroom, add abstract canvases above your bed to complete the look. Stay away from canvases that don’t have a frame. Frameless artwork cheapens the look and make it feel like it was mass produced (because it was). Try finding artwork that has a frame and ideally a matting too.
If you really want to please your budget, try creating your own canvases!
Organic Natural Laundry Basket

Now that the rope laundry basket has been invented, is there really any reason to have a plastic one stuck in the corner of your room? Use those plastic one’s for function and get one of these for aesthetic! This is also a great basket to put your extra blankets in.
Throw Blanket

Throw blankets are a great way to add a pop of color to your room or to just make it look more cozy. Toss it on the end of your bed or having it draped over the side of your rope basket!
Decorative Pillows

Decorative throw pillows are a great way to add more texture and depth to your bed. Add variations of color from the pallet you’re working with to make it more appealing to the eye and to create that depth.
Rub and Buff

If you’re into thrifting or repurposing what you already have, boy do I have just the thing for you! Rub and Buff is literally like magic in a tube and you barely have to use any of it! I have no idea how this stuff works, but it completely transformed our lamps within minutes.
The lamps on our bedside tables used to be dark brushed bronze, but it didn’t fit the neutrals in our room. We used silver leaf Rub and Buff and they turned out amazing! 10 of 10 would fully recommend.
